India Gate, originally known as the All India War Memorial, honors 74,187 Indian soldiers who lost their lives between 1914 and 1921. As one of the largest war memorials in the country, it observes a dignified tribute every Republic Day, when the Prime Minister pays respects at the Amar Jawan Jyoti before the Republic Day parade begins. India Gate is also a popular gathering spot for protests and tourists. In January 2022, a statue of Subhas Chandra Bose was announced to be placed under the canopy at India Gate. A striking 28-foot tall holographic statue was inaugurated there on January 23, 2022, coinciding with Parakram Diwas. Later that year, a new statue of Bose was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi near the India Gate.
