The Red Fort, also known as Lal Qila, is a majestic Mughal fortress in Delhi and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1639 when he shifted the Mughal capital from Agra to Delhi. Designed in elegant shades of red and white, the fort reflects the artistic brilliance of Ustad Ahmad Lahori, the same architect who designed the Taj Mahal.
Over the centuries, the fort has witnessed many events — from Nadir Shah’s invasion in 1739, when it was looted, to British damage after the 1857 Rebellion. Despite these hardships, much of its grand architecture and defensive walls remain beautifully intact. Later, it also served as a military garrison.
Today, the Red Fort stands as a proud symbol of India’s history, heritage, and freedom, where the Prime Minister hoists the national flag every Independence Day. 🇮🇳✨
